A National Vision for Head Start

A Profile of Kids' Corps, Inc.

• Incorporated In 1987
• Became a Head Start Delegate agency under Rural Cap in 1989
• Obtained Grantee Status in 1990 to serve 133 children and their families.
• Accepted as an United Way Agency in 1997
• In 1991 centers were located in “leftover” space in Anchorage Elementary Schools.
• In 2004 KCI owns or leases five child service centers: East Center, Davis Center, South Center, Mt. View Center, & Muldoon Center.
• We now serve 350 children. Over 15% have diagnosed disabilities.
• Governance comes from our Board of Directors, Policy Council, and various Advisory Committees composed of community members, staff, and parents of Head Start children.

Profile of KCI Staff

• About one third are current or former Head Start Parents.
• KCI has grown from 29 staff positions in 1990 to the present number of 73.
• 5 staff were awarded a CDA (Child Development Associate) 2008 - 2009
• 7 classroom staff received Associate's Degrees in Early Education in 2008 - 2009.
• 1 classroom staff received Bachlors Degree in Early Education in 2008 - 2009.
